1- Are there any restrictions on foreigners owning property in Costa Rica?
No, in fact foreigners have the same property rights as Costa Rican citizens.

2- Do I have to be in Costa Rica at closing?
No, you do not have to be present at the closing if you have given Specific Power of Attorney to your legal representative.  Special Power of Attorney would not  give your legal representative the power to sell or encumber your property.

3- Can I use my own attorney?

Yes, you may select your own attorney.  If requested, we will provide you with reliable references.

4- How much are the closing costs and what do they include?

5- How much are the real estate taxes?
Real estate taxes in Costa Rica are currently calculated at 0.25% of the stated property value.  This means that a $700,000 property has an annual sales tax of $1,750.
